Living Arm Sally Costume

This year I decided that I wanted to bring a beloved Halloween character to life. I have always loved the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sally is my favorite character. I grew up loving the film immensely, and now seeing my children love it as well, has brought me so much joy. I like creating costumes that stretch the imagination, so I decided to create a living arm illusion for Sally, just like in the film. I love the scene where she leaves her arm behind and it bonks professor Finklestien on the head. To create this illusion, I have a fake arm, in place of my real one. My real hand is moving, but it looks as though my severed appendage is. I also created the stitched blue undergarments with nylon and thick black yarn. And I sewed the iconic rag doll dress. From scratch. This costume was a huge hit! It made everyone do a double take, and brought a bit of magic to my favorite holiday. Happy Halloween!!!
